We strive to comply with applicable Federal and State clean water laws and regulations by protecting water quality by preventing pollution, providing education on the importance of water quality to the environment and the public health, and promoting public involvement in the stewardship of the local water environment.

Multi-Jurisdictional Program

Hamilton County along with Collegedale, East Ridge, Lakesite, Lookout Mountain, Red Bank, Ridgeside, Soddy Daisy, and Walden formed a multi-jurisdictional program, the Hamilton County Water Quality Program.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the establishment of a stormwater program as authorized under the Clean Water Act (1977) and the Water Quality Act (1987). The laws require urbanized cities and counties to implement a water quality program to protect streams and rivers. Hamilton County Water Quality Program (the Program) operates under National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit Number TNS075566, issued by the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).

Permit coverage requires the Program to meet the following 6 Minimum Control Measures (MCMs).
